Cathy and Diarmuid
From Dublin, Ireland
A party of 40
Location: Lokrum island wedding
Date: 2nd August 2008
Why Dubrovnik?
We initally looked at Sicily, mainland Italy, France and Spain for
the wedding but Dubrovnik won out for several reasons. Dubrovnik was
very easy for guests to get to. It is a 3 hour direct flight from
Dublin, and the airport is 30 minutes from the old city. Dubrovnik
is one of the most beautiful cities we had ever seen - it's one of
the best preserved medieval cities in Europe. As soon as we saw Dubrovnik
in real-life we knew it would be somewhere special for us, and somewhere
spectacular to bring our guests to. The prices were reasonable compared
to Ireland, and the options available were far greater ... oh and
there was guaranteed sunshine!
What were your feelings the morning of the wedding?
We were both really excited, the weather was perfect and everything
looked perfect. We knew everything was in hand, so we were happy and
relaxed.
Did you have a wedding theme / colour theme?
We wanted a simple elegant wedding. White was the main theme, and
we had a brown accent colour to match the bridesmaid's dress. The
flowers were white lillies with green foliage.
Was planning a wedding abroad more complicated than planning
a wedding at home?
It was much simpler. We used Nina Bos as our wedding planner and could
not have asked for better organisation. Every detail was thought of
months before the date and everything was recorded on spreadsheets.
There were no surprises on the day, and the costs were exactly what
we thought they would be. At home we would have had to take care of
the details ourselves, so having Nina and her team was a god-send!
What was the feedback you received on your wedding?
Our guests still cannot stop talking about our wedding. We told everyone
we were getting married in the town hall, but when they arrived we
led them onto a boat and sailed to Lokrum Island for the ceremony.
The island was beautifully decorated for the wedding, and the location
gave great opportunities for pictures and views of Dubrovnik across
the bay. We then went on an hour long cruise with unlimited champagne
... our guests cannot stop talking about that part of the day!!! The
food was also a big hit ... the quality of Croatian food is second
to none ... it has a similar style to Italian, but a bit heartier.
The only negative comment was that the portions were enormous ...
Irish people aren't known for their restraint and most people were
full before their main course.
Did you go over your planned budget?
No ... everything was priced months before and there were no surprises!
Do you think you would have spent more or less if you were
to organise a wedding at home?
We would have spent the same amount of money, but we would have gotten
far less for it!

Nina and Martina were consumate professionals. Every detail we asked for was organised, and we didn't perceive a single problem on the day. Nina told us before the wedding that if we had any problems on the day just to turn and look for one of them who would always be somewhere in the background. The whole day ran so smoothly and Nina and Martina were so professional that many of our guests didn't even realise we had wedding planners there on the day. The 1st time we met Nina she brought her laptop full of photos of different ideas for everything from the flowers to locations.
