German Citizens
Procedure for residents and expatriats

ALL documents must be originals issued max. 90 days
and min. 45 days prior to the wedding day.

  • Ehefähigkeitszeugnis

    Contact "das Standesamt des Wohnsitzes des deutschen Verlobten".
    This document requires verification by Apostille.

  • Internationale Geburturkunden

    Contact "das Standesamt wo die Geburt (Personenstandsfall) sich ereignet hat".
    Often you can order this online, depending on the city.

  • Passport Copies

    Do not require apostile, just make sure they inlcude the same middle names as are mentionned on your birth certificate.
    You need passport scans or copies for the both of you and your 2 witnesses.

  • Gerburtsurkunden

    If you get the INTERNATIONAL LONG BIRTH certificate you will not need further legalisation, because Croatia and Germany have signed an agreement that this is no longer needed for this type of birth certificate.

  • Middle names

    Check all your documents carefully - including your passports: if your birth certificate has a middle name... then this middle name must be on all documents you will submit in Croatia.

  • The Stamp Apostile

    Is only needed for your "Ehefähigkeitszeugnis", NOT for the birth certificate.
    Can be gotten in person / by post or online via apostille services in Germany.
    Costs: 15 euro per document
    Where: contact your "Standesambt" and check which is the office responsable for your area.

  • Certificate of No Impediment

    Contact the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade
    in Australia. Verification by Apostile is needed.

  • Long Birth Certificates

    Issued in the city you were born in,
    Verification by Apostile is needed.

  • Certificate of Single Status

    Also called "No Record" Result. Contact the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages.
    Verification by Apostile is needed.

  • The Stamp Apostile

    An Apostille may be obtained from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade state or territory offices in Adelaide, Hobart, Darwin, Perth and Brisbane and the Australian Passport Offices in Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne and Newcastle.
    Cost: AUD $60 per single-sided one page document.
    If you can't get to an office, check with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade office in your state or territory about how to send the document and how it will be returned to you, as well as what fees are applicable.

  • Passport copies

    Yes, you will have to submit those too.

  • Certificate of Single Status

    This document shows that the State has done a "search" in their records to see if you have been married before. The search should result in "NO RECORD". Make sure the search is done as of the age you became 18.

  • Certificate of No Impediment

Dutch citizens

Birth Certificates must be originals issued max. 90 days
and min. 45 days prior to the wedding day.

Legal Paperwork


  • Certificaat van Huwelijksbevoegdheid

    Contact the "Dienst van de burgerlijke stand" where you live.
    This certificate requires further legalisation.

  • Internationaal Geboortecertificaat

    Issued in the city you were born in.
    No further legalisation required.

  • Passport copies

    Of yourselves and both your witnesses.
    These not require apostile, just make sure they inlcude the same middle names as are mentionned on your birth certificate.

  • International Birth Certificate

    If you get the INTERNATIONAL LONG BIRTH certificate you will not need further legalisation, because Croatia and Holland have signed an agreement that this is no longer needed for this type of birth certificate.

  • Middle names

    Check all your documents carefully - including your passports: if your birth certificate has a middle name... then this middle name must be on all documents you will submit in Croatia.

  • The Stamp Apostile

    Is only needed for your "Certificate of Huwelijksbevoegdheid", NOT for the birth certificate.
    Can be gotten in person / by post or online via apostille services in Holland.
    Costs: 15 euro per document, make sure you get one for each certificate!
    Where: contact your "Dienst van de burgerlijke stand" and check which is the office responsable for your area.

Norwegian citizens
Procedure for residents and expatriats

ALL documents must be originals issued max. 90 days
and min. 45 days prior to the wedding day.

Legal Paperwork


  • Certificate of No Impediment to Marriage

    Is issued by Folkeregisteret in the community in Norway where you last resided or alternatively by Sentralkontoret for Folkeregistrering under Skattedirektoratet in Oslo.
    This certificate requires apostille legalisation.

  • Long Birth Certificate

    Issued in your local tax assessment office.
    This certificate requires apostille legalisation.

  • Passport copies

    Of yourselves and both your witnesses.
    These not require apostile, just make sure they inlcude the same middle names as are mentionned on your birth certificate.

  • The apostille legalisation

    Make sure that you request international LONG (multilingual) certificates and that they are sent via the Fylkesmann where they will be stamped with the important apostille stamp.

  • Middle names

    Check all your documents carefully - including your passports: if your birth certificate has a middle name... then this middle name must be on all documents you will submit in Croatia.

  • The passport copies

    Do not require any form of legalisation.
